Player Timeline

Freshmen

  • Academic plan (GPA, eligibility, NCAA requirements)
  • Send emails to the school of your preference with highlight video
  • Create an athlete resume (position, height, GPA, honors and accolades)
  • Attend to college camps,clinics and tours

Sophomore

  • Continue Academic Plan (SAT, ACT)
  • Research Schools 
  • Send and follow up your emails (add schedule, skills and highlight videos)
  • Update resume
  • Attend to college camps, clinics and tours

Junior

  • Continue sending emails (new schedule)
  • Set up calls with coaches​​​​​​​Register with the clearinghouse 
  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Visits (unofficial and official)
  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Update skills video, Narrow down your top colleges (5-10)

QUESTIONS COACHES MAY ASK TOP SELECT

  •    Is the player willing to leave FL?
  •    Where is the player in terms of the recruiting process?
  •    What is the financial situation of the player and is walk-on an option?
  •    Would the player be willing to attend camp or visit the campus?
  •    What are the players grades and SAT/ACT like?
  •    Does she play beach?
  •    Is he/she coachable?
  •    How is his/her attitude?
  •    Is he/she a team player?
  •   Are the parents here and who are they?  What are they like?

Recruiting

  • Are you Recruiting my position in the year [insert year in question]?
  • Have you had a chance to see me play? What are your thoughts? 
  • Where do I stand on your list of potential recruits? 
  • What is your normal season schedule and out-of-season schedule? 
  • How do your players balance academics and volleyball? 
  • Do you offer summer camps? Are the players required to stay for summer camp?
  • What is preseason like? How long is preseason?
  • What are the training facilities like? 
  • Are the training facilities and academic center near each other? 
  • What are the locker rooms like?
  • Where are volleyball offices located on campus?
  • What is the arena like that you play in?
  • Where does the volleyball team stand on campus among the other sports? Is there a fan following?

Academics

  • Is there academic support?
  • What are the admission requirements? 
  • Do your players graduate within four years? 
  • Do you have an academic advisor for the team? 
  • Are you required to be on campus during the summer?
  • Do freshmen have study hall? What are the study hall requirements after freshman year?
  • How do your players balance academics and volleyball?
  • What are the strongest degree programs offered and which are the best academic departments?
  • If you know what you want to study ask if the institution carries that particular major? Exp. I want to be a teacher. Does your school have an education program? What is its ranking compared to other school?
  • Is the school on quarters, semesters, or trimesters?

Coaching

  • How long have you coached at your school?
  • What is your coaching philosophy and demeanor in practices and matches?
  • What style of play does your team play?
  • What are the goals for your team in the future?
  • Did you play in college?
  • How long have you been a college coach?
  • Why did you decide to go into coaching?

Team

  • How many players do you carry on your roster? Do all players travel?
  • What time of the day are the practices typically?
  • What was the team’s conference and overall record this past season?
  • What style of play does your team play?
  • What are the goals for your team in the future? Do most students live on or off campus? Where do most of the players on the team live?
  • What is student housing like?
  • Does the team stay together in the same dorms or apartments?
  • Does the volleyball team have a weight training coach? 
  • How often is the team in hotels overnight? 
  • What form of transportation is provided to and from games? 
  • What training happens between seasons?
  • What is the environment at your home matches? Expectations on match day?
  • What type of team bonding are held? 
  • What medical resources do you have on campus and off campus for injuries, sickness, etc.? 
  • Are the players on your team close as family?

School

  • How large is the school, what is the undergraduate enrollment?
  • Is the school in a safe environment? 
  • How big is the city that the school resides in?
  • What is the typical class size at your school?
  • Do students go home on the weekends or do they hang around?
